Unfortunately, due to a severe bicycle accident on September 19, Mark Higgens will not be able to join us, and this event has been postponed for now.
A conversation for future pastors in preparing them to conduct funerals
Presented by Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home and Western Theological Seminary
This discussion will be led by Mark Higgens, President of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service & Crematory in Durham, NC. A frequent presenter on End of Life issues, Mark regularly conducts programs at Duke Divinity School, area faith communities, hospice organizations and Duke Hospital’s CPE program.
Mark will explore the theology of Christian funeral practices, pastoral issues around death, and ways churches can guide the faithful in upholding fundamental human tasks of caring for the dead and the living. He has co-presented on several occasions with Dr. Thomas G. Long and collaborated with him on his books, Accompany them with Singing: The Christian Funeral and The Good Funeral: Death, Grief and the Community of Care.
Mark was called to his vocation through Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home in Holland/Zeeland during his years as a Hope College student. The conversation will take place in Mulder Chapel on the campus of WTS.
This event is free, and registration is not necessary.
